“As individuals, these artists have expressed clear, contemporary and personal points of view—each of their images are strong, yet gain depth and meaning as a body of work. As a group, this work shows a way forward for photography … these artists skillfully build on the language of the medium that we have come to understand, while stretching our experience and understanding of what photo-based art can be.” —Fred Bidwell
“For FRESH 2012, we enlisted the collector’s eye of Fred Bidwell as co-curator. From the selection process emerged an insightful dialogue, which not only encompassed the merits of each photographers’ submission, but navigated the conceptual texture and interplay of the final selections—stemming from showing work in the gallery, on the magazine page and via the internet. It’s a fresh approach and it’s brought about a different way of looking. This year’s FRESH, presents photographers creating photography that is fresh in approach, distilled with a further articulation of the craft.” —Darren Ching
